Costco Meat Price Comparison

We're continuing on our adventure of comparing the price of items at Costco to other stores to see if they're the best deal or just convenient because everything is in bulk.

The first thing I want to note about their meat items is they are the only store I have ever noticed that shows their prices only per kilogram. Every other store advertises and makes their signs with the price per pound and in smaller print puts the price per kilogram. Honestly, I think this is a strategy to make it harder to compare their prices when you're standing in the store looking at items.

So now that I'm home and can properly do the math, lets get into it! Each item will be compared to Fortinos and Walmart at full price. I only buy meat when it is on sale so I will also make note of the price I will pay for the item when it goes on sale.

Chicken Drumsticks

Costco - $7.49/kg which is $3.40/lb

Fortinos - $11/kg which is $4.99/lb

Walmart - $8.75/kg which is $3.97/lb

Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs

Costco - $14.99/kg which is $6.80/lb

Fortinos - $18.72/kg which is $8.49/lb

Walmart - $16.98/kg which is $7.70/lb

Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast

Costco - $14.99/kg which is $6.80/lb

Fortinos - $16.51/kg which is $7.49/lb

Walmart - $15.51/kg which is $7.04/lb

Costco - $11.49/kg which is $5.21/lb

Fortinos - $15.41/kg which is $6.99/lb

Walmart - $12.98/kg which is $5.89/lb

*I don't see Chicken Wings on sale very often, I've only ever bought them marked down to $1.99/lb*

Costco - $10.49/kg which is $4.76/lb

Walmart - $12.72/kg which is $5.77/lb

Pork Side Ribs

Costco - $8.49/kg which is $3.85/lb

Fortinos - on sale when I'm writing this - $8.80/kg which is $3.99/lb

Walmart - $17.57/kg which is $7.97/lb

Boneless Pork Chops

Costco - $9.49/kg which is $4.30/lb

Fortinos - $17.61/kg which is $7.99/lb

Walmart - $12.06/kg which is $5.47/lb

*Bone-in frequently go on sale for $1.99/lb, as do Pork Loin Halfs which I cut up myself into chops*

Italian Sausages

Costco - $10.99/kg which is $4.98/lb

Fortinos - $13.21/kg which is $5.99/lb

Walmart - $9.98/kg which is $4.53/lb

*I don't know the sale price per lb or kg, typically I only buy sausages is its $1 or less per sausage*

Bacon

Costco - $23.99 which is $1.20 per 100g

Fortinos - $6.99 which is $1.40 per 100g

Walmart - $4.97 which is $1.33 per 100g

*Bacon frequently goes on sale $2.99 for 375g packs which is $0.79 per 100g*

Like I said, I only buy meat when it goes on sale so it was intersting to see what the full prices of these items are. I also have a post coming soon on Instagram just to highlight the sale prices!
